Noa said, “Go. Honestly. I don’t mind.”
There were two sentences inside that sentence. Adam chose the words, because the words were safer, and went.
He came home before midnight to an apartment at the wrong temperature.
The sentence under the sentenceTransaction
An ulterior transaction runs on two levels at once: the social level (the words — go, I don’t mind) and the psychological level (the message — stay; choose me). Berne’s rule: the outcome of a transaction is decided at the psychological level. Adam answered the words. The evening was decided by the message.
